Lab Cases

Track lab work sent to and received from laboratories. Per OpenDental API LabCases.

What are Lab Cases?

A lab case represents work sent to an external Laboratory (e.g. crown, partial). It links a Patient (PatNum), an Appointment (AptNum or PlannedAptNum), and a Provider (ProvNum). Track DateTimeCreated, DateTimeSent, DateTimeRecd, DateTimeChecked, Instructions, LabFee, and InvoiceNum. AptNum must be Scheduled; PlannedAptNum must be Planned.

Create Lab Case

Required: PatNum, LaboratoryNum, ProvNum. All date/time fields use format yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss (e.g. 2022-10-04 14:23:12).

Required. FK to patient.PatNum.

LaboratoryNum *

Required. The lab the case is sent to.

ProvNum *

Required. FK to provider.ProvNum.

AptNum

Optional. FK to appointment where AptStatus=Scheduled.

PlannedAptNum

Optional. FK to appointment where AptStatus=Planned.

DateTimeDue

Due date on the lab slip.

DateTimeCreated

When the lab case was created.

DateTimeSent

When the case went out to the lab.

DateTimeRecd

Date/time received back from the lab.

DateTimeChecked

When quality was checked.

LabFee

Tracking only; not used in calculations.

InvoiceNum

Optional invoice number for tracking.

Field descriptions:

LabCaseNum – Primary key.
PatNum – FK to patient.PatNum.
LaboratoryNum – FK to laboratory; the lab the case is sent to.
AptNum – FK to appointment (AptStatus=Scheduled).
PlannedAptNum – FK to appointment (AptStatus=Planned).
DateTimeDue – Due date on lab slip (yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss).
DateTimeCreated/Sent/Recd/Checked – Create, send, receive, and quality-check timestamps.
ProvNum – FK to provider.ProvNum.
Instructions – Text instructions for the lab.
LabFee – Tracking only; not used in calculations.

DateTStamp – Last edited timestamp.

LabCases POST (create)

POST /labcases. Required: PatNum, LaboratoryNum, ProvNum. All date/times: "yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss". Per OpenDental API LabCases.

DELETE:

DELETE /labcases/{LabCaseNum} – removes the lab case. 200 OK.
