Field Descriptions:

Identification Fields

ProvNum: Unique provider identifier (integer). Use this when creating/updating appointments.
Abbr: Provider abbreviation (string, e.g., "DOC1", "HYG1"). Used for display in schedules.
FName, LName: Provider's first and last name (strings).
Suffix: Name suffix (e.g., "DDS", "DMD", "RDH"). Optional string.
CustomID: Custom identifier for integration purposes (string).

Professional Credentials

NationalProvID: National Provider Identifier (NPI) - 10-digit number required for insurance billing.
SSN: Social Security Number (format: "123-45-6789"). Used for reporting and tax purposes.
StateLicense: State dental license number (string). Required for legal practice.
StateWhereLicensed: Two-letter state code (e.g., "CA", "NY") where license is valid.
DEANum: DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) number. Required if provider prescribes controlled substances.
StateRxID: State prescription identifier (string). State-specific prescriber ID.
TaxonomyCodeOverride: Healthcare Provider Taxonomy code override (string). Used for claims.

Provider Classification

Specialty: Provider type (integer 0-10):
0=General Dentist, 1=Hygienist, 2=Endodontist, 3=Orthodontist, 4=Periodontist, 5=Prosthodontist, 6=Oral Surgeon, 7=Pediatric Dentist, 8=Assistant, 9=Lab Technician, 10=Other
IsNotPerson: String boolean ("true"/"false"). Set to "true" for entities like labs or facilities.
IsInstructor: String boolean. Set to "true" if provider is a dental school instructor.
AnesthProvType: Anesthesia provider type (integer):
0=Not an anesthesia provider, 1=Anesthesiologist, 2=Dentist Anesthesiologist

Status and Visibility

IsHidden: String boolean ("true"/"false"). If "true", provider is inactive and hidden from selection lists.
IsHiddenReport: String boolean. If "true", provider is hidden from reports but still functional.
ProvStatus: Provider status (integer):
0=Active, 1=Retired, 2=Inactive
DateTerm: Termination date (date string "yyyy-MM-dd" or "0001-01-01" if not terminated).

Scheduling and Display

ProvColor: Hex color code (e.g., "#FF5733") for appointment blocks and schedule display.
OutlineColor: Hex color code for appointment outline. Default "#000000" (black).
SchedNote: Scheduling notes (string). General notes about provider's schedule preferences.
IsSecondary: String boolean. If "true", provider is a secondary or associate provider.

Financial and Billing

FeeSched: Default fee schedule ID (integer). Used for procedure pricing for this provider.
ProvNumBillingOverride: Override billing provider number (integer). If set, this provider number is used for billing instead.
UsingTIN: String boolean. If "true", provider uses Tax Identification Number instead of SSN for billing.

Integration Fields

EmailAddressNum: Reference to email address record (integer). Links to email management system.
CanadianOfficeNum: Canadian office number (string). Used for Canadian clearinghouses.
EcwID: eClinicalWorks integration ID (string). For EHR integration.
IsCDAnet: String boolean. If "true", provider is enabled for CDAnet (Canadian dental claims network).
IsErxEnabled: Electronic prescription status (integer):
0=Disabled, 1=Enabled, 2=EnabledWithLegacyBridge
EhrMuStage: EHR Meaningful Use stage (integer):
0=None, 1=Stage1, 2=Stage2, 3=Stage3, 4=ModifiedStage2

Education Fields

SchoolClassNum: Dental school class identifier (integer). Used in academic/teaching settings.
IsInstructor: String boolean. Indicates if provider teaches dental students.

Usage Notes:

• Providers are typically read-only from the API (managed in OpenDental admin)
• Use ProvNum when creating/updating appointments (both ProvNum and ProvHyg fields)
• ProvNum is the main provider, ProvHyg is the hygienist for the appointment
• IsHidden="true" means provider won't appear in selection lists
• NationalProvID (NPI) is required for insurance claims submission
• Filter by Abbr, LName, or FName when searching
• Specialty determines which procedures the provider can perform
• ProvColor helps visually identify providers in the appointment schedule
